Power, wealth and what people believe to be success have become the top priority of those who are too selfish and too inconsiderate. These money infatuated people need to start taking into consideration others and stop pushing them down for their own desires. They need to realise that everyone is equal, everyone deserves the same and that they have to live with these people for the rest of their life. Sure, they can avoid the weak they have hurt but a life of harmony would be much greater then one of avoidance. The powerful that are ravenous and greedy need to stop and consider what how their actions are effecting the weak so that the targeted victims have a chance to grow and to prosper. Although the vulnerable are constantly victimised by those craving power perhaps they allow themselves to be manipulated. Sure, we all feel sorry for the less privileged but how can we when they allow themselves to be stepped all over? Yes, some of the disadvantaged are genuinely stuck in a lower social class with no hope of thriving but there are so many that take any opportunity they can in the hopes of moving up in the world. These choices are thoughtless choices. When an authoritative and influential figure approaches the weak and asks them for help there is no doubting that they would say yes. They powerful have the vulnerable in the palm of their hands and the underprivileged let them. Why, why would you let someone walk all over you when you know that they are just using you for something greater? I personally believe it is so that the vulnerable can be viewed as incapable and desperate drawing the powerful to them in the hopes of leeching something off them. What they donââ¬â¢t understand is that the rich and the privileged have a lot more resources for victory and it is a pointless attempt to try and receive anything from them. They want to stay at the bottom so that others feel sorry for them, so that they donââ¬â¢t have to work, so they can get by on the scrapings that we give them. It is also the case of mob mentality when someone gives into peer pressure making them extremely pathetic and will do anything they are told because they donââ¬â¢t have the courage to question what is right, subjecting them to manipulation. He also defeated Persian King Darius III at the battle of Issus 333 BC. Later he expanded his power to Syria and Phoenicia completely rooting off Persians from their port. One of his greatest military achievement was the conquest of Tyre in 332 after which he overcame Egypt. GEOGRAPHY There he founded Alexandria. Then he took control of East Mediterranean coast and again defeated Darius at Gaugamela. Then he conquered Babylon.à In Persia he formed an empire ruled by both Persians and Macedonians. He also took control of Oxus and Jaxartes rivers and founded more of Alexandria cities. He married Persian princess Roxana. He died at the age of 33 after heavy drinking and buried in Alexandria, Egypt. His conquest extended from Thrace to Egypt and from Greece to Indus Valley and expanded Greek and Macedonian Empire. Under his rule, he conquered almost the entire world of his era and expanded the empire of Macedonia and Greek. CLIMATE OF THE AREA The weather was cloudy and occasionally sunny. RELIGIONS OF THE PEOPLE Alexander thought that he had a divine origin. He believed this because of his motherââ¬â¢s conception that he was born from serpent not Philip. Then he was taught by Lysimahcus. Lysimachus taught Alexander to play lyre, fine arts, music, poetry and drama. At the age of 13 he was taught by Aristotle. THE POLITICS Alexander ascended the throne after the murder of his father and took hold of the troubled kingdom. Alexander Marched towards Athens and Thebes and towards northern side to take hold of the cities who were threatening to break away from Macedonians after Philipââ¬â¢s death. He subdued Athens and Thebes and repelled northern barbarians. Most of the Alexanderââ¬â¢s success was due to political and military strength of Philip. Philipââ¬â¢s large contribution to the Macedonian army and acquisition of alliances with Balkans, strengthened his own kingdom and expansion of their empire in Alexanderââ¬â¢s era. Philip ascended to the Macedonian throne in 359 BC. At that time, Macedonia was suffering from a defeat and their political and military power was destroying at the hands of Illyrians.2

First, stereotypes may induce a discriminative movement. A good example is when any company wants to hire a fat person. Indeed, these companies focus only on the physique of the person who is applying for the job instead of looking at his or her real skills. The physique of the fat person acts as an obstacle to the other persons. In other words, it stops people from learning real facts about the subjected individual. People usually see the fat persons as lazy, not healthy, incompetent, or even as handicapped. This generalization allows people to believe that fat persons donââ¬â¢t have a legal right to be hired when in fact, they do have this right. Also, based on other negative generalizations, people may be accused for example for criminal facts without having any credible proof. As Alane Michaelson explained in his essay ââ¬Ëstereotyping Consequences,ââ¬â¢ they tend to accuse them just because of their race, their religion, or any other characteristic that make them belonging to another social group. Thus, discrimination is one of the greatest risks associated with stereotypes. Second, stereotypes may have an impact on the psychological identity of a person. When a little boy grows up in a minority group where the people are always seen as incompetent, he may start to believe on these critics and, consequently, start to restrain his own achievements unconsciously. Hearing perpetual stereotypes about a group may cause the persons belonging to this group to believe that all the stereotypes that are said out by the minority group are true. Therefore, as Julie Moore mentioned is her article ââ¬ËThe Effects of Stereotyping,ââ¬â¢ the persons in minority tend to fall into an unsafe or negative behavior. Consequently, children cannot grow up properly with all these stereotypes that surround them in their daily life. However, the impact on the identity of the individual can have an opposite effect when it comes to positives stereotypes in the majority groups. In this case, instead of limiting their achievements, people improve their skills until they reach the generalized fact. In this manner, these people will feel that they are ââ¬Å"trueâ⬠participants in the group as they fit to the stereotype. In contrast, some people may also feel not appropriate to the group that they belong as they donââ¬â¢t belong to the stereotype attributed tothe gr oup. Thus, generalizations made about a group can have an important impact on the identity of the persons belonging to this group. Third, stereotypes lead to prejudices. In her article ââ¬ËThe Effect of Stereotyping,ââ¬â¢ Julie Moore explains an example that is related more or less to the main idea of the first paragraph: when a white female person doesnââ¬â¢t approach an Arab person who is next her as she believes that all Arab persons are dangerous. Thus, the female judges before meeting or speaking with the man. Obviously, this prejudice doesnââ¬â¢t come from nowhere; it is actually partly the result of the media effect that tends to throw a lot of negative images about the Arabian people. They always project images of Arab with weapons in a manner to show to the world that they are dangerous. Also, because of these negative prejudices that people usually make, building relationship with new friends can often be a big obstacle. If the white woman knew that the Arab man was in fact a rich famous surgeon in America, she would directly establish a conversation with him. Thus, prejudices can often lead to surprised result. Yet another example related to prejudices is Brent Staplesââ¬â¢ experiences. Through his essay ââ¬ËNight Walker,ââ¬â¢ the black man explains how people, especially girls, are afraid of him when he walks behind them in a dark and empty street because of his skin color and the way he dresses. Consequently, while stereotypes appear as a natural fact and help people to understand certain groups as a whole, they donââ¬â¢t include and allow individual differences. By creating stereotypes, people promote more discrimination, prejudices, and a significant impact on the individualââ¬â¢s identity. Therefore, to prevent all these negative effect of stereotypes, people should take into consideration that even if every individual belongs to a certain group, it doesnââ¬â¢t mean that a person is like all the other members of the group. People should dare to approach the persons that are different than them by letting go the negative images and learning about each other as special individuals. Finally, creating relationship with people that are totally different would be like a benefit that may lead to a rich and interesting life. Introduction Today, a majority of practitioners and academic observers seem to agree that specific forms of long-term oriented co-operation between in formal terms independent firms and imply important advantages which would neither occur simply on the basis of purely opportunistic behavior and short-term orientations nor would they arise from structures of central control and organizational integration (Bachmann, 2007). Undoubtedly, the trend towards the establishment of close- and long-term oriented external relationships is strong and has also been confirmed by many contributions which in recent years discussed the characteristics of the system of inter-firm relations (Bachmann, 2007). The term partnership describes a very wide range of contracts and informal arrangements between firms and communities. The communities involved in partnerships range from local to global in scale. Partnerships are relationships and agreements that are actively entered into, on the expectation of benefit, by two or more parties. Partnerships are formed to address issues of collective implications of individuals at local and regional spatial levels, such as governance, quality of life, economic development, social cohesion, employment, etc. Partnerships are a means to share risk between the two parties, and third parties often play important supportive roles (Mayers and Vermeulen, 2002). Characteristics of effective community partnerships Findings from the study conducted by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) have demonstrated that effective community partnerships include the following characteristics: A comprehensive vision that encompasses all segments in a community and aspects of community life. A widely shared vision that has been agreed on by groups and citizens across the community. A strong core of committed partners who have been involved in the partnership from the very beginning. An inclusive and broad-based memberships that reflects the participation from all segments of the community, including the work place. Avoidance or quick resolution of conflict that might create a misunderstanding about a partnerships basic purpose. Decentralized units such as local planning councils or neighborhood teams, which not only encourage action directed at the needs of the small areas within a community, but also enlist residents to take the necessary actions or decisions. Reasonable staff turnover that is not disruptive. Extensive prevention activities and support for local prevention. (CSAP, 2000). Partnerships also strengthen democratic practices. The greatest challenge of communitys partnerships is to use their own assets and to internalize the need to better their life styles that can be achieved through individual and community empowerment. The factors that exist in a community are called assets defined by three interrelated characteristics: include the capacities of the members, internally focused and driven by relationships. To empower the community means that it may be able to create wealth and the basis of sustainable development using all the resources and all the vehicles at its disposal. In community partnerships, power relations are modified among the main actors, NGOs, grassroots organizations, the private sector and local governments, as equal partners in consensus building and decision-making. As an essential element of development, community foundations bring together key stockholders as equal partners with their own unique assets and their know-how of the environment. Communities must become equal partners in the development process through the involvement of all their members in the analysis of existing assets as a starting point for launching an investment initiative, rather than become recipients in need of expertise. Innovative solutions to challenges facing societies can be found through partnerships between government, firms, communities and civil society. Through partnerships, these economic agents may work together to design and adapt strategies and policies and take initiatives consistent with shared priorities to improve governance of local conditions. Advantages of Partnerships According to Cinnà ©ide (2003) enhanced governance through partnerships enables society to solve problems more effectively through: Integrated holistic approach Co-ordination of policies/actions Participation of civic society in decision making Empathy with local needs/conditions Adaptation of policies/actions to local priorities Custom-tailored area based strategies Leveraging additional resources Synergy from team effort Two ways to promote investing in communities are to involve the private sector and to focus on wealth creation rather than poverty alleviation. With partnerships the community brings other entities to be catalysts, facilitators and vehicles to mobilize resources. Partnerships are important to the private sector because they help to manage the expectations of the community. The private sector has the mechanism through which it can mobilize resources, assist governments and be a good partner for communities. Disadvantages of Partnership An advantage of a partnership over a sole proprietorship can also be a disadvantage. That partner who was initially nice to have around to help make decisions can quickly turn into someone to argue with over how the business should be run. In a partnership you do not always get your way. But in a sole proprietorship, you get to make all of the decisions. Only you are responsible for success or failure. The main disadvantage of a partnership in comparison to a limited partnership, corporation, or limited liability company is the unlimited liability of a partnership. In a regular partnership, each partner is personally liable for the debts of the partnership. If your partner runs up a lot of debts for the business, or if the business loses a lawsuit, the creditors can come after your personal belongings to get paid (such as your personal bank accounts, car, boat, etc.). However, if your business is incorporated or registered as a limited liability company, the creditors can only come after money and property belonging to the business. Similarly, if you are a limited partner in a limited partnership, creditors can only come after property of the business or the general partners. Your personal property is safe in such circumstances. The idea of the business entities with limited liability of the owners came about as a way for the government to encourage people to start businesses to boost the economy. It is a way to go into business without risking everything you own. Another possible advantage to other forms of doing business is in the area of taxes. Determining which type of business entity provides the best tax situation will depend upon many variables of the particular business in which you are involved. This can best be determined by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or tax attorney. The figure below is another look at the advantages and disadvantages of the various types of business organizations (Haman, 2004, pp.4-5). 4. Government-government partnerships The unique public-private US-Mexico Partnership for Prosperity initiative was launched in September 2001 with initiatives to target economic development in Mexico in the areas, which generate the most migrants. Asset based community development is an approach to working at the community level influenced by theory and practice in areas of: community mobilizing (McKnight and Kretzmann, 1993; Elliott, 1999: Chambers and Cowan, 2003). Sustainable livelihoods (Bebbington, 2000; Sen, 1981, 1984, 1999; de Haan, 2000, Sen and Klein, 2003), the UNDP sustainable livelihood model (UNCDF, 2001); the DFID model of sustainable livelihoods (Ashley, C Carney, D., 1999; Carney, 2002) and asset building. Asset-based community development is a means by which communities recognize the value of the multiple assets that they have: Human, social, natural, physical, financial, technological, etc. The Asset-Based approach aims to locate all of the available local assets, to begin connecting them with one another in ways that multiply their power and effectiveness, and to begin harnessing those local institutions that are not yet available for local development purposes. These assets and capacities can be broken down into three categories: Primary building blocks assets that are located in the community and controlled by its members. Secondary building blocks are assets not under community control but which can be brought under its control. The third category is potential building blocks. McKnight and Kretzmann (1993) Communities are not subjects; they are not recipients of aid. They are the architects of their own destinies. ABC locates control in the hands of communities, orients the policy and regulatory environment towards community level asset building for sustainable livelihoods. If local communities have weak capacity, participatory democracy and public accountability are challenged. Public sector, firms, communities and civil society as partners differ significantly. The accountability of partnerships may be undermined when NGOs and the unstructured civil society are represented on a volunteer basis and their interests may not be the ones of the community, giving way to conflicts of interests. Elected officials are accountable to their constituencies and public officials are accountable to government. Last week my dream had finally come true. I was offered a job in a chorus line of an off Broadway production. Soon I would follow my childhood dream of becoming a Broadway dancer and leave this boring hospital job behind. After parking my car, I tromped through the puddles and into the building. When I hung up my soaking wet hat and coat, I had no idea this day would change my life. As I began to gather up my cleaning supplies to begin my daily routine, I saw one of my co-workers near by. "Are there any new arrivals?" I asked. "As a matter of fact, there are two new kids. Theyââ¬â¢ll be moving into Room 209." she replied. "Youââ¬â¢d better change their bed sheets quickly." I hurried up to Room 209. Every new patient required fresh bed sheets and a clean room. It was my job to make sure they had them. I came in contact with patients quite often because I was always cleaning their rooms. However, I knew it was not a good idea to become attached to any of the kids. Co-workers had informed me that they had become fond of a child, only to have their hearts broken when the child didnââ¬â¢t survive. I had been careful not to make the same mistake. I did my job and didnââ¬â¢t think much about the sick kids. Just as I finished cleaning the room, two young girls entered in wheel chairs. They were both pale and sick. One was a small girl with a look of exhaustion on her face. Her name was Patty. The other girl looked like she was about eleven years old and had pretty brown eyes. When she saw me, she asked me what my name was. "Catherine," I replied. "My name is Angela," she said.
